Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups!

Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical or design backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.

Omar Akel

Founder & CEO @ Ifood.jo   |

Attended the University of Manitoba at the faculty of Science. Completed Bsc in Applied Mathematics and Economics, with a minor in History Studies. Started “Deliver Ease“ an online food ordering and delivery service in Manitoba in 2008 (two year prior to completing university). The company was bankrupt by the time I completed university. One year after, I traveled back to Jordan to start a new career with a fresh start (after the bankruptcy at such an early age).

In Jordan - Amman 2010, I worked with my father for a few months, while trying to get hired at a bank or a marketing agency, hoping to start a corporate career. It was to my surprise, I could not get a single job offer. I finally decided to start the Online Food Ordering service in Jordan all over again, this time, Mobile Apps were getting popular, and food delivery was already popular in Amman. I took the initiative to re-create the concept.

For starters, I knew having a partner for financial and effort support is important. I invited a beloved friend of mine “Zeid Husban“ to partner with me on the concept. I found a good developer (freelancer) that agreed to create the required software at 1000 USD only. At that time, all my savigns were 600 USD. On forward, we had the software developed and started the journey, our office was in the garage of my house, with 14m2 of space only!

Two years later (today), ifood.jo is the #1 leading online food ordering service in Jordan. With over 120 restaurants, and a collection of the world’s most famous chains, such as McDoanlds, Dominos, Papa Johns, and others.
Ifood.jo receives millions of yearly visits and has reached over $2,000,000 USD in sales. Ifood.jo is available online, on IOS Applications and on Android.
From a bankrupt concept in 2008, to a small business in a small garage with one employee in 2011, and finally to a corporate office with over 17 employees today and still growing.

Strategist, Economist, & Entrepreneur are strong descriptions of Yousef Hamidaddin, yet the most admired by is his capacity for Vision. It is his belief that the most powerful catalyst for growth & achievement is a "Vision" delivered by a focus on excellence in people, and organization structure.
Studying quantitative methods, economics, playing chess at an early age contributed to his thinking early in his career, and the coaching he had from the top leadership in P&G crafted the word "Strategy". It gave it a new meaning when watching the top brass speaking for hours on the subject.
He created an industry for Direct Marketing in the region. In partnership with the US DMA, Yousef established the Arab Direct Marketing Association, which became the reference point for DM at the Arab League.
